Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Assistant Non-Certified to join our team at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. As a key member of our Cardiology Unit, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Take and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
  • Encourage patients to turn, cough, and take deep breaths to prevent complications.
  • Ambulate patients and assist with transfers to and from bed, wheelchair, or other equipment.
  • Provide nutritional support, including distributing meal trays and assisting with feeding.
  • Perform morning and evening care, including bed baths, oral hygiene, and dressing patients.
  • Empty drains, canisters, and other equipment, and record intake and output.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe environment by reporting equipment malfunctions and storing supplies properly.
  • Provide general care, including positioning, lifting, and turning patients, as well as assisting with the use of bedpans and urinals.
  • Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens as ordered.
  • Perform tasks such as ROM and assist with ambulatory devices as specified by the patient's plan of care.
  • May perform phlebotomy and EKG procedures, requiring additional training.
  • Promptly answer patient call lights and respond to patient requests.
  • Report significant changes in patients' condition to the RN.
  • Help maintain a clean and orderly patient and work environment.
  • Employ established infection control policies, including standard precautions and transmission-based isolation precautions.
  • Document patient records as appropriate.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate (GED) preferred.
  • Hospital experience a plus.
  • Medical terminology a plus.
  • Ability to operate a computer and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read with comprehension, write legibly, and perform basic arithmetic computation.
  • Understanding and knowledge of patient care that may be appropriately delegated to nursing assistants.
  • CPR certification required (if not currently certified, must be certified or recertified during the orientation period).
  • BLS certification required.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, working 72 hours per quarter. The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
