Job Summary:

VIA Metro Transit is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transit Police Officer to join our team. As a Transit Police Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our passengers and employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform patrol duties to prevent and investigate crimes within the VIA system and on all VIA properties.
  • Coordinate and monitor security and police needs within the VIA system.
  • Function as VIA's representative in working with local agencies, such as police and fire departments, utilities, and contractors when security/police services are requested.
  • Enforce laws and regulations to maintain a safe and secure environment for passengers and employees.
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide assistance as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school education or G.E.D.
  • Successful completion of Peace Officer Academy.
  • Additional college hours, law enforcement, or military experience preferred.

Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with irregular hours, including early morning, evening, late, or overnight hours, weekends, holidays, and/or split shifts. The work involves being around moving vehicles and exposure to dust, fumes, gases, noises, and extremes in temperature/humidity.

Physical Requirements:

The physical ability to be mobile, bend, stoop, stand, reach, and have sufficient mobility and strength to occasionally subdue and restrain offenders is required.
