This role qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers reimbursement for student loan payments. Candidates must fulfill specific eligibility criteria in line with VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of their appointment.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  1. Citizenship: Only U.S. citizens may be appointed unless there are no qualified citizens available as per VA Policy.
  2. Language Proficiency: Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in both spoken and written English.
  3. Certification: All applicants must hold certification in general radiologic technology from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is necessary for roles involving computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M).
  4. Educational Background: Completion of a full-time diagnostic radiologic technology program lasting at least 24 months beyond high school.
  5. Grandfathering Provision: Candidates may qualify under the Grandfathering Provision as outlined in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation.
  6. Grade Requirements: Applicants must meet specified grade criteria.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  1. Understanding of radiation safety standards, devices, and methodologies.
  2. Proficiency in utilizing advanced imaging software.
  3. Fundamental knowledge of physics, including energy concepts and x-ray properties.
  4. Expertise in patient positioning for various imaging procedures.
Key Responsibilities

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist - Mammography operates autonomously and without direct oversight. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Utilizing mammography equipment to produce diagnostic images.
  2. Conducting routine to moderately complex radiographic examinations.
  3. Implementing radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure for patients, staff, and self.
  4. Communicating examination procedures to patients and monitoring vital signs as necessary.

8:00 am to 4:30 pm
