Job Title: Division Chief

Monroe County is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Division Chief to lead our Fire Rescue Services team. As a key member of our emergency services team, you will be responsible for coordinating, managing, and directing administrative activities of the Fire Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement divisional plans, strategic plans, and budgets in accordance with department-wide goals.
  • Act as Incident Commander or other ICS position on emergency scenes as needed.
  • Assist the Fire Chief in developing, communicating, enforcing, researching, reviewing, and servicing divisional policies and procedures.
  • Formulate and implement practices, rules, techniques, and procedures to improve organizational efficiency.
  • Supervise and coordinate assigned departments and staffing.
  • Evaluate assigned personnel for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Set a high standard of professionalism through appearance, respect for personnel, and professional communication.
  • Participate in or provide information for the BOCC, other government boards and commissions, neighborhood and civic group meetings, state and regional associations, or events.
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Fire Chief and other personnel to communicate and coordinate service delivery and sharing of resources.
Requirements:
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university with coursework emphasis in Fire Science, Business, or Administration.
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience with a career fire service organization in all areas of fire operation, management, budget, prevention, suppression, and training.
  • State of Florida Fire Officer II certification required.
  • State of Florida Fire Instructor I, Florida Incident Safety Officer, and National Fire Academy coursework or programs.
  • Valid State of Florida EMT certification and a valid State of Florida Paramedic certification preferred.

Work deals with regularly making decisions that could lead to major community or organizational consequences if an employee fails to make the appropriate decision at the time.
