Primary Purpose
Provide expert guidance and legal counsel on all aspects of the company's Ethics & Compliance Helpline investigations, under the supervision of the Director and Managing Attorney for Ethics & Investigations. Support and advise internal investigators and stakeholders throughout the investigative process. Supervise external legal counsel engaged in conducting investigations.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive advice and counsel to investigators, human resources, and labor relations teams regarding the company's Ethics & Compliance Helpline investigations.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on investigation reports.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and delivery of training programs for investigative teams across the organization.
  • Collaborate with other investigative teams within the Sempra family of companies on investigation support, Helpline trends, and program enhancements.
  • Conduct intricate internal investigations.
  • Support the administration of the company's Ethics & Compliance Helpline.
  • Help prepare presentations and updates regarding the company's Ethics & Compliance Helpline for leadership.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) or a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an accredited law school is required.
Experience
Required:
  • 8 years of legal practice experience, specializing in litigation and/or labor and employment law.
  • Extensive experience in advising on and conducting workplace investigations.
Preferred
  • Experience within the utility sector.
  • In-house experience in legal, ethics and compliance, resources, and/or audit departments.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • We offer a hybrid work environment, typically allowing you to work from the office three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
Skills And Abilities
  • Advanced understanding of workplace investigations, labor, and employment law.
  • Extensive experience advising on a wide range of employee relations issues.
  • Strong ability to establish effective cross-departmental relationships at all levels.
  • Exceptional proficiency in legal analysis, strategic thinking, writing, and communication skills.
Certifications
  • Admission to the California Bar and maintaining good standing status is required.
  • Holding a certificate from the Association of Workplace Investigators is preferred.
