POSITION OVERVIEW:
- Responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating patient care through the application of the nursing process.
- Exhibits leadership by collaborating effectively with ancillary departments and other members of the patient care team to uphold Clinical Practice Standards and Patient Care Standards within the clinical environment.
- Engages in Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Involves in educating patients and their families, as well as planning for discharge.
- Oversees, supervises, and assesses the nursing care delivered. Facilitates decision-making processes at the unit level.
- Allocates nursing responsibilities to team members based on patient requirements and the competencies and qualifications of the nursing staff.
- Demonstrates proficiency in core and specialized nursing skills.
- Provides annual unit-based education for staff members.
- Administers medications competently, with a thorough understanding of their actions, methods of administration, side effects, and contraindications.
- Implements, transcribes, and/or countersigns physician directives.
- Utilizes assessment capabilities to identify the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, discharge planning, spiritual, and educational needs of patients, families, and/or significant others.
- Communicates relevant unit activities, variations in workload/staffing, and challenging situations.
- Conducts patient rounds with physicians and assists in diagnostic tests and procedures.
- Recognizes opportunities for personal and professional growth.
- Promotes positive public relations for the nursing department and the healthcare facility.
- Actively participates in the safe and effective administration of oncology chemotherapy, demonstrating knowledge of mechanisms of action, methods of administration, dosage calculations, and contraindications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program; BSN is preferred. BLS certification required.
LICENSE:
Must hold a current license from the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior nursing experience is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
PATIENT INTERACTION:
Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for the patient population served.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
STANDING:
Majority of the shift involves standing.
WALKING:
Significant time spent walking.
LIFTING:
Must utilize proper body mechanics to independently lift or, in certain cases, assist with lifting/transferring patients.
VISUAL:
Must be able to read physician orders and observe patient care areas; utilize inspection skills during patient assessments.
HEARING:
Must be capable of receiving and comprehending telephone communications; auscultate and percuss during physical assessments.
SPEAKING:
Effective communication is essential for instructing and supervising nursing staff, conveying physician orders, and addressing patient and family needs.
