Job Summary

The Produce Assistant is a key member of the produce department team, responsible for providing exceptional customer service and supporting the Produce Manager in achieving departmental goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide World Class Customer Service as a top priority, ensuring a positive shopping experience for all customers.
  • Assist the Produce Manager in ordering and inventory management, maintaining accurate levels and minimizing shrink.
  • Contribute to creating an inviting and full produce department, ensuring a consistent and abundant shopping experience.
  • Support the Produce Manager in managing margin, COGs, and overall department profitability.
  • Perform tasks such as culling, crisping, rotating, and properly handling/storing produce.
  • Ensure only certified organic produce is ordered and received, meeting company standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to health department and company standards.
  • Assist in training and monitoring department personnel, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
  • Conduct active and passive demos, promoting products and services to customers.
  • Work collaboratively with the Produce Manager to address performance issues within the department.
  • Perform register functions, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, and addressing customer complaints.
  • Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees, adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Continuously increase product knowledge, staying up-to-date on new products and services.
  • Utilize email and IS programs as needed, communicating effectively with team members and management.
Requirements
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in grocery, retail, or produce environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
  • 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
  • Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a sense of urgency in completing tasks.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail, able to take direction and follow through.
  • Cashier training and ability to count currency.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
