Neuropsychologist in Sports Medicine

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Neuropsychologist will conduct comprehensive neuropsychological assessments for a diverse range of patients, including those undergoing neurosurgical, neurological, psychiatric, and general medical evaluations. This role involves close collaboration with medical professionals to tailor treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer neuropsychological assessments for individuals with suspected neurological conditions, psychiatric disorders, and general medical issues presenting psychological symptoms.
- Engage in direct therapeutic interventions focusing on neuropsychological challenges, which may include individual and family therapy as appropriate. This encompasses both treatment delivery and the development of tailored programs in conjunction with other healthcare providers.
- Provide expert consultation on cognitive and behavioral rehabilitation strategies for patients experiencing neurological challenges, such as strokes, aneurysms, and traumatic brain injuries. Act as a bridge between psychiatry and other medical disciplines to formulate effective triage and treatment strategies for patients with multifaceted medical and psychological needs.
- Conduct capacity assessments as requested by healthcare providers. Prepare detailed written reports that may serve as legal documentation. Collaborate with relevant social service and community organizations to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
- Supervisory Duties: Oversee the clinical training of psychology interns, fellows, and other mental health trainees as required.
Experience
- Completion of a one-year predoctoral internship with a focus on neuropsychology. A minimum of 2000 hours in a formal post-doctoral neuropsychology training program within medical environments, particularly in neurology, neurorehabilitation, or neurosurgery, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in psychology from an accredited institution recognized by the American Psychological Association, with comprehensive training in neuropsychology and psychopathology.
- Psychologist License (California) to be obtained within six months of employment.
- National Provider Identifier required upon hiring.
- Proven experience working with a broad spectrum of neurosurgical, neurological, psychiatric, and general medical patients.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a key member of an interdisciplinary team in a neurorehabilitation context.
- In-depth knowledge of social service resources, state regulations, and ethical standards related to patient care and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- If not licensed in California at the time of hiring, must hold a valid license in another U.S. state and be eligible to practice under specific regulatory conditions.
