Job Title: School Nurse

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Westside Union School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing general health services and specialized healthcare at an assigned school site(s), coordinating health services with other site services, and working with parents and staff to provide staff development as necessary about particular health issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct medical case finding, screening, and referral activities related to health defects of selected pupils
  • Refer parents of pupils needing medical care or other health care assistance to appropriate community resources
  • Serve as a resource to teachers and other staff on health-related issues
  • Coordinate administration of medication to students during the school day
  • Meet with parents and staff in an effort to identify causes and prevention of illness and potential health problems
  • Provide health counseling services to staff, students, parents, and community members
  • Provide staff development as necessary on a variety of health-related issues, including specialized healthcare plans
  • Serve as a resource to staff members in the presentation of sensitive health instruction, primarily in the area of growth and development and family life issues
  • Provide for immunization and student physical screening as a condition of school admission

Requirements:

  • B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited college or university, nursing degree, and a credential authorizing service as a school nurse
  • Valid child/adult CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Valid Registered Nurse License in the state of California

Working Conditions:

The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, parents, and staff. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
