Charity Shop Clerk

Job Objective: Responsible for managing and pricing items available for purchase. Processes transactions, calculates totals, accepts payments, and provides change for customers in a thrift store setting by executing the following tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Efficiently handle merchandise in accordance with the guidelines established by the Store Manager
• Assign prices to items that lack tags
• Organize and display clothing as directed
• Restock racks, shelves, counters, or tables with products
• Maintain cleanliness of shelves, counters, or tables
• Process customer purchases
• Operate the cash register, manage payments, and provide change
• Package or bag items for customers
• Assist in creating displays and arranging products to enhance sales
• Foster positive customer interactions by providing prompt and courteous service
• Monitor and manage the rotation and expiration of merchandise
• Ensure proper utilization of assigned tools and equipment
• Maintain cleanliness of the premises, including removal of trash and donated items
• Oversee and clean restrooms, entrance areas, windows, and floors
• Report any complaints, damages, or concerns to management
• Support the mission of The Salvation Army
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the thrift store manager or corps officer

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience: Retail experience is preferred but not mandatory

Certifications/Licenses: None required

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to effectively communicate information in one-on-one situations with customers, clients, and colleagues; bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred
• Proficiency in using basic office equipment such as cash registers, copiers, fax machines, and telephones
• Capability to perform basic arithmetic operations
• Ability to handle transactions involving American currency
• Comprehension of and ability to follow instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats
• Capacity to work collaboratively in a team environment

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Physical Requirements: Includes speaking, hearing, and vision; excellent manual dexterity; ability to lift, pull, and push materials weighing up to 30 pounds; bending, squatting, and walking; standing for up to 8 hours per day. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this position.
