Rigger 1 Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Rigger 1 to join our team at M.C. Dean, Inc. as a key member of our construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and repairing rigging for the movement of heavy equipment, ensuring compliance with state health and safety regulations, and communicating effectively with the rigging team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare materials before loading and set up rigging equipment for heavy equipment movement.
  • Operate heavy equipment machinery and dismantle rigging after the job.
  • Communicate with the rigging team and ensure compliance with state health and safety regulations.
  • Inspect and prepare loads for movement, and select the appropriate rigging gear.
  • Prepare rigging equipment, including beams, pulleys, clamps, and bolts, and inspect rigging before final use.
  • Monitor and maintain rigging equipment, and maneuver loads using heavy equipment machinery and by hand.
  • Ensure compliance with state and company safety procedures, and communicate with the rigging and construction team.
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, to ensure safety of workers and materials.
  • Break down rigging equipment and conduct post-rigging inspections.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years working as a Rigger.
  • Minimum Level 1 NCCCO certification.
  • NCCCO Signal person SGP.
  • NCCCO Rigger 1 RIG-1.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of rigging equipment and heavy machinery.
  • Excellent hearing and vision.
  • Ability to work at heights and in noisy environments.
  • High-level mathematical skills.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions.

Abilities:

  • Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions.
  • See details at close range.
  • Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
