Position Overview


The Speech Language Pathology Support Specialist is responsible for executing a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing pre-language and language capabilities, oral-motor skills for speech production, vocalization, and the utilization of assistive technology for communication purposes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the delivery of Speech Therapy services to patients in accordance with established practice protocols.
  • Assist in the screening process of patients to assess the necessity for intervention or treatment.
  • Aid in the evaluation of patients to determine the need for therapeutic intervention.
  • Adhere to documented treatment strategies developed by the supervising Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Record patient progress and communicate findings effectively.
  • Maintain a safe and organized workspace, following safety standards.
  • Support the upkeep and inspection of therapeutic equipment.
  • Observe patients during therapy sessions to gather and analyze data on their responses and progress, reporting results to the supervising therapist.
  • Collaborate with physical therapy staff and other professionals to discuss and assess patient information for treatment planning.
  • Educate caregivers or family members on treatment protocols.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as inventory management, supply ordering, and message handling.
  • Implement selected care components and interventions competently.
  • Recognize patient needs and demonstrate compassion and empathy towards individual differences.
  • Complete documentation to support the provision of therapy services.
  • Conduct data collection and ensure accuracy in information gathering.
  • Measure and report on patient performance in their medical records.
  • Participate in evaluating patient status.
  • Uphold ethical and legal standards in practice.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and knowledge enhancement.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in speech/language pathology or audiology from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education:

Minimum Experience:
Completion of an internship with at least 1,260 hours of clinical experience.

Preferred Experience:
One year of experience as a Speech Therapy Assistant.
Required Certifications/Licensure:
Active and unrestricted license to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant in Texas.
Preferred Certifications:

Required Courses/Completions:
Current CPR certification through recognized organizations, with a requirement to maintain certification throughout employment.
