System Safety Engineer Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled System Safety Engineer to join our team at Virgin Galactic. As a System Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our space systems and contributing to the development of safe and reliable products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of safety artifacts for new and existing designs
  • Contribute to process improvement for safety analyses, including Fault Tree Analysis, Functional Hazard Assessment, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis
  • Provide risk advice to production, maintenance, technical, project, or program personnel
  • Integrate your deliverables into the process flow and design development of the program

Requirements:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in an Engineering discipline, Mathematics, or Physics from an accredited university
  • General knowledge of Systems Engineering development lifecycles
  • General knowledge of software development practices and design assurance methods such as DO-178 or ARP4754
  • Previous exposure to FAA commercial space regulations preferred
  • Exposure to system safety methods of ARP4761 or MIL-STD-882, with emphasis on hazard mitigation processes
  • Basic knowledge of fault tree modeling software to model complex systems
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical engineering drawings
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience in aerospace or system safety field
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and written communication skills
  • Team player with excellent communication skills
