Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Automotive Repair Technician II is responsible for executing mechanical and aesthetic repairs on both customer and internal vehicles, adhering to the CarMax Certified Quality Inspection Process and the Retail Repair Process.

This role involves direct customer interaction during the repair process, managing parts and supply inventories, and ensuring the proper use and maintenance of all CarMax tools and equipment to support store operations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform CarMax Standardized work procedures
  • Conduct engine repairs and enhance engine performance
  • Repair electrical systems and manual drive trains
  • Diagnose and repair brake systems
  • Execute steering and suspension repairs, including 4-wheel alignments
  • Service heating and air conditioning systems
  • Inspect vehicles according to CarMax Quality Standards as needed
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in line with CarMax 5S standards
  • Care for shop equipment through regular maintenance and cleaning
  • Engage with customers in a friendly and service-oriented manner
  • Consult with customers regarding necessary repairs
  • Review repair orders for accuracy in labor, parts, and documentation
  • Close and invoice repair orders efficiently
  • Communicate all recommendations and repairs clearly to customers
  • Handle service payments and manage cash transactions
  • Receive and organize shipments of parts into inventory
  • Maintain parts inventory for neatness and accuracy
  • Control service supplies to minimize waste

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Support store operations to maintain vehicle inventory and quality standards
  • Assist in assessing vehicle conditions during the sales process
  • Prepare sold vehicles for delivery and manage vehicle transfers
  • Coordinate with external vendors for vehicle handling when necessary

Job Requirements:
  • Participate in New Associate Orientation Training
  • Complete Kronos Training for Hourly Associates
  • Obtain Refrigerant Recycling License
  • Maintain ASE Certifications as required by state/local laws
  • Read and interpret data for accurate record-keeping
  • Perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Communicate effectively with customers and associates
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and manual dexterity
  • Ensure compliance with CarMax, O.S.H.A., and EPA standards
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Display exceptional telephone etiquette and active listening

Working Conditions:

This position involves a combination of office and outdoor environments, with potential exposure to noisy and inclement weather. Flexibility in work hours is required, including possible shifts during nights, weekends, and holidays. Adherence to CarMax policies regarding attire and safety standards is mandatory.
