Medical Examiner for Veterans' Disability Claims

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Provider to perform medical assessments on United States Veterans as part of the VA's disability benefits process. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing medical health records through a secure Web Portal and conducting comprehensive assessments on each veteran. They will also complete Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs) through the Web Portal, documenting exam findings needed by the VA. This is an independent medical assessment role, not a treating position, and does not involve making disability determinations. The VA makes all disability determinations.
Responsibilities:
- Review medical health records through a secure Web Portal
- Conduct comprehensive assessments on each veteran
- Complete Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs) through the Web Portal
- Document exam findings needed by the VA
Requirements: To be successful in this role, you must hold a current MD/DO license and specialize as a Physiatrist or PM&R. Board certification in Neurological Surgery, PM&R, or Psychiatry and Neurology is preferred. If not board certified, you must have completed a 2-year residency in a relevant specialty. Additionally, you should be proficient at finding key data points within large electronic medical records, able to analyze data from the medical records and exam findings, and possess strong typing skills. Your ability to manage your time effectively, stay on task, and meet requirements is essential. You will be working with sensitive information, so discretion and confidentiality are crucial. As you will be interacting with veterans, empathy and a willingness to serve are important qualities for this role.
