Position Overview & Requirements- Specialty: Clinical Laboratory Technician

Role Summary:
The selected candidate will be part of the Rex Core Laboratory, performing essential patient testing and supporting clinical operations within the UNC Healthcare System.
Work Schedule: Wednesday - Tuesday, 9 PM - 7:30 AM (shifts). This schedule allows for a unique seven days on, seven days off rotation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Guide patients in preparation for tests requiring fasting and address any inquiries regarding the procedures.
2. Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
3. Participate in the education of Clinical Laboratory Science students and new staff members.
4. Oversee daily operations of the laboratory section or designated work area.
5. Engage in special projects or assignments, either individually or as part of a team.
6. Conduct a variety of routine and standardized tests using established techniques and equipment. Prepare specimens, troubleshoot specimen issues, and perform analytical assessments. Label and store specimens appropriately.
7. Prepare reagents and assist in the formulation of standard and control materials. Monitor reagent levels and help maintain inventory.
8. Document test results accurately and maintain comprehensive records. Communicate results and any deviations from expected outcomes to supervisors or ordering physicians.
Additional Information
Educational Qualifications:
● Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
Licensure/Certification:
● If holding an Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician, candidates must be ASCP or AMT Board of Certification eligible and obtain BOC within one year.
● For those with an Associate's degree in chemical or biological science, Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) Board of Certification (BOC) is required.
Professional Experience:
● No prior experience is necessary.
