We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Financial Counselor to join our team at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. As a key member of our revenue cycle team, you will be responsible for reviewing financial clearance worklists, collecting patient liability amounts, and ensuring accurate insurance verification and precertification.
Key Responsibilities- Follow AIDET guidelines in all patient interactions
- Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills
- Conduct daily reviews of financial clearance worklists and visit in-house patients to collect estimated patient liability amounts
- Provide accurate and timely insurance verification and precertification reports
- Collaborate with case management and insurance verification departments to ensure seamless patient care
- Follow all guidelines set forth in the Cash Handling policy
- Utilize eligibility systems, online websites, or phone calls to determine insurance benefits and precertification requirements
- Assist patients with payment arrangements and coordinate with Medicaid Eligibility Staff to assist with financial applications
- Contact patient employers, if necessary, for verification of employment, premium status, and babies being added to policies
- Escalate any concerns to the Patient Access Manager/Supervisor as needed
- Enter pertinent insurance information into the HIS system (i.e. Meditech)
- Enter appropriate notes for all patient encounters
- Maintain a professional image and provide excellent customer service to patients
- Complete financial analysis and collect estimated patient liabilities
- Follow up with patients for necessary signatures if incomplete at time of hospitalization
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- 1 year of related experience required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
