Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Paralegal Assistant to join our team at the City of Lewisville, TX. The successful candidate will provide administrative and legal secretarial support to the City Attorney and staff, ensuring the smooth operation of our municipal law department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a range of administrative and legal secretarial duties, including typing complex documents, managing legal department records, and assisting with the records retention process.
  • Manage legal department compliance with the Public Information Act, including drafting OAG request letters for attorney review.
  • Assist attorney with municipal court, including but not limited to assisting with municipal court discovery requests, reviewing produced documents for completeness and relevance, and scheduling discovery pickup.
  • Assist with the development, preparation, and implementation of legal department budget.
  • Perform office management functions, including but not limited to procurement of office supplies, payment of attorney dues and registration fees, submission of departmental purchase order requests, and management of the law library.
  • Draft ordinances, resolutions, and contracts.
  • Work with attorney to assist in legal research and writing needs.
  • Prepare and revise forms in eminent domain cases; locate and assist with service on defendants; file pleadings; assist in preparation for hearings.
  • Prepare legal documents and pleadings for litigation, as directed.
  • Assist in gathering and preparing evidence and information for trials and hearings.
  • Assist and may accompany attorneys during depositions, meetings, hearings, and trials to marshal exhibits and schedule time for attendance of witnesses.
  • Track attorney assignments; coordinate with attorney and affected departments in order to establish deadlines for completion of assignments.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three (3) years of responsible experience, preferably in municipal law.
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
  • Paralegal/Legal Assistant Certification preferred.
  • Notary Public license within six months of employment.
