About the Job

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services is seeking a highly skilled Dental Assistant to join our team. As a Dental Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our dental team in delivering high-quality services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide routine prophylaxis and topical fluoride treatments to patients.
  • Carve and polish routine and complex alloy restorations.
  • Take preliminary impressions and place and contour restorations.
  • Ensure patients are comfortable in the dental chair and prepare them for treatments and procedures.
  • Sterilize dental instruments and hand instruments to dentists during procedures.
  • Dry patients' mouths using suction hoses and other equipment.
  • Process x-rays and complete lab tasks under the direction of a dentist.
  • Keep records of dental treatments and maintain accurate patient records.
Requirements
  • 1 year of specialized experience in dental assistance or specialized dentistry, dental assistant (expanded functions) work, or any combination of these appropriate to the position being filled.
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in a dental assistant or dental hygiene program that included at least 24 semester hours in courses such as radiation physics, radiation biology, radiation health, safety, and protection, X-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques, darkroom and processing techniques, and film mounting.
Working Conditions

This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
