Job Title: Microbiology Technician

At Merieux NutriSciences, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Microbiology Technician to join our team. As a trusted partner in the food industry, we are committed to making food systems safer, healthier, and more sustainable.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a motivated and organized individual to assist in the preparation and analysis of biological samples. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in microbiology and laboratory techniques, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare biological samples for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending.
  • Write identification onto plates to track client and sample information.
  • Pipette sample solutions into tubes or plates according to analysis procedures.
  • Pour agar into plates or tubes to initiate growth processes.
  • Collect plates and place them in incubators for specified times and temperatures.
  • Prepare media and broth for pathogen testing as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to complete job responsibilities.
  • Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis.
  • Read plates and tubes to determine organism concentrations.
  • Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes.
  • Perform necessary housekeeping duties to maintain clean and sanitized work areas.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience and 1+ year of relevant work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of science to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers to accurately enter testing data and results.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Planning skills to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified times.
Work Environment:

The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials may occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment such as gloves, laboratory coats, and eyeglasses may be required depending on the testing process.

Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be necessary to transport media materials. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position. The incumbent should be able to detect slight variations in shades of colors.
