POSITION SUMMARY

The Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist is responsible for overseeing medication therapies to enhance patient outcomes while ensuring the judicious use of antimicrobial agents. This role includes managing the Pharmacy Department and supervising staff to deliver pharmaceutical services aligned with the mission and vision of West Suburban Medical Center. The pharmacist will perform the duties expected of a registered pharmacist.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Adherence to established Standards of Behavior.
  • Support the Director in financial oversight of the department, including budget development and management.
  • Design and execute pharmacy-based and institution-wide performance improvement initiatives to promote appropriate antimicrobial use (e.g., clinical pathway development, antibiotic time-out processes, automatic IV to PO transitions, and dose adjustments).
  • Provide updates on Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) performance to the Director of Pharmacy, Chief of Infectious Diseases, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary rounds and antibiotic utilization reviews alongside Infectious Disease specialists.
  • Offer expertise in appropriate antimicrobial therapy, antibiotic de-escalation, and dosage optimization.
  • Develop performance metrics and dashboards to monitor antimicrobial usage and other ASP initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Participate in the proper storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals within the facility.
  • Assist in reviewing and implementing policies and procedures to meet regulatory and best practice standards.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Possess a Master's degree in Pharmacy or Pharm. D.
  • Completion of a hospital pharmacy residency or two to three years of experience as a registered pharmacist in a hospital environment.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Illinois.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge of pharmaceuticals and disease management.
  • Experience in Antimicrobial Stewardship is preferred.
