About the Role

As an Academic Program Coordinator at Montclair State University, you will play a vital role in supporting approximately 2,000 students who are not yet matriculated into a major or pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. Reporting to the Director of University College Career and Academic Programming, your primary responsibility will be to develop, coordinate, implement, and assess various activities designed to facilitate students' transition to university life and enhance their academic success.

Main Responsibilities:
  • You will design and execute strategic initiatives, experiences, and activities that acclimate students to the university, create a welcoming environment, and foster a sense of belonging among University College students.
  • You will work closely with academic administration and advising staff to stay informed about new programs and curricular changes, ensuring accurate promotion of pre-major academic opportunities.
  • You will collaborate in the development of the New Student Seminar for University College students and provide instruction for at least one section per academic year.
  • You will oversee the training and activity of a caseload of 50 University College Fellows within the New Student Seminar and beyond.
  • You will provide academic advising support to pre-major students in collaboration with the advising team through peak period advising, coordination, and implementation of advising group sessions related to registration, major declaration, and academic policy education.
  • You will manage the University College podcast, including host and guest recruitment, collaboration with WMSC, podcast promotion, and administrative duties.
  • You will utilize DegreeWorks, Banner, and Navigate to provide effective advising support and document outreach and engagement.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree from an accredited college or university, along with a minimum of three years of experience in academic and/or student development work in a large university with a diverse student population. You should have knowledge about issues related to undergraduate and adult student success, as well as demonstrated capacity and commitment to maintaining currency in emerging theory, practice, and innovations in the field. Additionally, you should be familiar with software applications that support student advising, tracking, and assessment, or have a strong interest in learning to use such technology. A demonstrated commitment to student success is essential.

Salary and Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary of $ $65,000-$75,000 per year, commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
