About the Role

MasTec Utility Services is seeking a skilled Civil Construction Estimator to join our team in Austin, Texas. As a key member of our project team, you will be responsible for assisting with the administrative function of current projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare material and subcontractor take-offs for bid projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate take-offs of materials, subcontracting, and production items for projects.
  • Acquire plans for projects and analyze specifications and proposals.
  • Bid accurately using Bid2Win software or comparable software.
  • Prepare and deliver bids, as well as prepare subcontracts and purchase orders for projects.
  • Assist operations in administrative duties on projects, including furnishing bid information for tracking purposes and working on improving the bid process.
  • Prepare job files for operations and keep job logs up-to-date.
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience and proficiency with Bid2Win (Bidding) Software.
  • Knowledge of methods and specifications in the utility construction field.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, business management skills, and general knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous utility construction project estimator experience.
  • Ability to use Bid2Win software and other comparable software efficiently and proficiently.

Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment, requiring extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
