About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Group Fitness Instructor to join our team at Fitness Connection. As a Group Fitness Instructor, you will be responsible for leading group exercise classes that promote overall fitness, strength, and endurance while ensuring the safety of our members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Class Preparation
    • Arrive at the class location 10 to 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled start time to interact with members, answer questions, and introduce new participants.
    • Clothing should be appropriate fitness attire and adhere to COVID-19/CDC guidelines.
    • Prepare music for class and refrain from using music with offensive language.
    • Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and have microphones ready.
    • Participate in events to promote your class format(s) as needed throughout the year.
  • During Class Responsibilities
    • Introduce yourself and the format of the class.
    • Inquire if there are any first-timers in the group and assess their fitness level in a private manner.
    • Make sure all verbal instructions are clear and the volume, tempo of music, and atmosphere are conducive to hearing, teaching, learning, and having fun.
    • Continually monitor participants to ensure they are using correct form and offer variations of the routine to accommodate all fitness levels.
    • Create a motivational and fun environment for all participants.
    • Uphold Fitness Connection's Mission and Values by delivering group exercise classes that meet or exceed company standards based on COVID-19/CDC guidelines.
    • Engage in opportunities to positively interact with members.
  • After Class Responsibilities
    • Remove all music and return microphones to their proper place.
    • Make sure the room is in order for the next class to begin.
    • Answer any questions or concerns participants may have.
    • Solicit feedback from participants about the class.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Ensure that classes begin and end promptly and make adjustments to the flow of the class to ensure adherence to the schedule.
    • Follow proper closing procedures as outlined by the GXD for the individual facility if teaching the last class of the day.
    • Find a qualified/approved substitute and notify the GXD if there is a problem finding a substitute in the event that a GXI cannot fulfill a scheduled class.
    • Be dependable and consistent in class schedules and make arrangements to minimize substitutes or cancellations.
    • Attend all required staff meetings as necessary.
    • Follow proper time recording procedures and prepare incident and/or witness reports as necessary in the event of accidents.
    • Maintain a positive and professional attitude towards responsibilities, fellow employees, and members.
    • Promote COVID-19/CDC adherence, Fitness Connection, and the Fitness Connection Group Exercise program as much as possible.
    Qualifications
    • Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and group exercise principles.
    • Knowledge of basic physiology and body mechanics.
    • Performance of a variety of exercise routines.
    • Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
    Requirements
    • Verifiable proof of education/certification for specialized skill formats.
    • Company-approved current national GXI certification.
    • CPR AED certification and basic first-aid training.
    Physical Demands
    • Physical demands include, but are not limited to, bending, squatting, jumping, running, reaching, walking, hopping, spinning, and kicking, and the ability to lift 20 lb weights.

    Language Skills
