Under the direct supervision of the Licensed Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician II plays a vital role in dispensing and delivering medications and pharmaceutical supplies. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient safety.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, with a pharmacy technician training program preferred. A minimum of 1 year of experience in an inpatient pharmacy setting, with at least 1,000 hours in the previous 12 months, is required. Certification as a Pharmacy Tech-In-Training, Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Intern in the state of West Virginia is also necessary.

The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced skills, such as sterile compounding of Oncology chemotherapeutics, patient-interview skills, and completion of specialized training in other areas of expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Dispense and deliver medications and pharmaceutical supplies under the direct supervision of the Licensed Pharmacist.
  • Compound sterile and non-sterile products as required.
  • Fills orders, picks and delivers restocks for automated dispensing machines (ADMs); provides basic trouble shooting of ADMs.
  • Pre-packs both hazardous and non-hazardous medications; enters charges and credits into computer.
  • Makes rounds to deliver and return medications and IVs; performs other technical duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the training of new employees.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a pharmacy technician training program is preferred.
  • Employment at Preston Memorial Hospital inpatient pharmacy for at least 1 year, and a minimum of 1,000 hours in the previous 12 months.
  • Certification as a Pharmacy Tech-In-Training, Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Intern in the state of West Virginia, or ability to reciprocate to West Virginia.
