Deputy Attorney

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Attorney to join our team at Ravalli County. As a Deputy Attorney, you will be responsible for providing legal counsel to county offices, departments, and elected boards, as well as representing the county in civil litigation.

• Provide legal representation in jury and non-jury trials, and other court hearings and proceedings
• Advise the board of county commissioners and other county offices at public meetings
• Represent Ravalli County in defending or prosecuting civil litigation in all courts and administrative hearings
• Act as liaison with the county's insurer and assigned insurance defense attorneys
• Prosecute enforcement of statutes or regulations as assigned
• Communicate orally and in writing on civil legal issues
• Be on-call to assist and advise elected officials and county departments with civil issues requiring immediate action

• Doctor of Jurisprudence from an ABA accredited institution
• Admitted and licensed to practice law in the State of Montana in good standing
• Ability to adhere to strict standards of confidentiality
• Ability to analyze law enforcement investigations and make charging decisions
• Ability to prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, correspondence and complex legal documents
• Knowledge of civil procedure and laws, and rules of evidence
• Ability to handle conflicts between the public and county departments, work under stress, and communicate in contentious situations

This position requires occasional day and evening vehicle travel within the State, particularly within Ravalli County and to the state capitol in Helena. The Deputy Attorney will work in an office or courtroom setting, but may be required to visit sites, projects or physical locations involving steep slopes, rough terrain or other difficult environmental conditions.
