Morgan Lewis, a leading global law firm, is seeking a highly skilled Patent Agent and/or Technical Specialist to join their award-winning Intellectual Property Practice Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
This position will be part of a dynamic team that provides high-quality legal services to domestic and foreign clients. The Patent Agent will work closely with intellectual property partners to protect inventions and assume significant client responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office
- Performing prior art searches and analysis
- Patentability analysis
- IP due diligence
- Engaging in practice development activities to build and maintain client relationships
- Preparing substantive client correspondence
- Instructing local counsel for foreign filings and Office Actions
- Assisting in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects
- Applying advanced concepts in life sciences fields, with particular emphasis on molecular biology, cell biology, and/or biochemistry
- Studying and analyzing scientific or technical documents to assess patentability, novelty, and inventiveness
- Converting prior provisional applications into utility applications
- Converting foreign filed applications into U.S. applications
- Converting U.S. applications into foreign applications
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or graduate degree) in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering
- Minimum 2 years of experience prosecuting or examining patent applications in the electrical arts, preferably in display and battery technology and optics
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or eligible to sit for the USPTO patent agent exam
- Excellent writing and research abilities, as well as proficiency in written and verbal communication, and strong organizational skills
