The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

This position will be part of a dynamic team that provides high-quality legal services to domestic and foreign clients. The Patent Agent will work closely with intellectual property partners to protect inventions and assume significant client responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office
  • Performing prior art searches and analysis
  • Patentability analysis
  • IP due diligence
  • Engaging in practice development activities to build and maintain client relationships
  • Preparing substantive client correspondence
  • Instructing local counsel for foreign filings and Office Actions
  • Assisting in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects
  • Applying advanced concepts in life sciences fields, with particular emphasis on molecular biology, cell biology, and/or biochemistry
  • Studying and analyzing scientific or technical documents to assess patentability, novelty, and inventiveness
  • Converting prior provisional applications into utility applications
  • Converting foreign filed applications into U.S. applications
  • Converting U.S. applications into foreign applications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or graduate degree) in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 2 years of experience prosecuting or examining patent applications in the electrical arts, preferably in display and battery technology and optics
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or eligible to sit for the USPTO patent agent exam
  • Excellent writing and research abilities, as well as proficiency in written and verbal communication, and strong organizational skills
