Senior Systems Software Engineer

Job Description:

The Senior Systems Software Engineer is responsible for architecting and implementing innovative system software solutions while enhancing existing applications to bolster the technological framework and services of the Computer Science Division. This role encompasses a wide array of responsibilities, including OS-level systems, web architecture, network services, and tools for system administration.

Additionally, the Senior Systems Software Engineer will create automated processes for deploying new, enhanced, or upgraded services utilizing configuration management and orchestration methodologies.

The individual in this position will provide technical guidance, engage in strategic planning, set standards, and offer mentorship and training to fellow team members.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5-7 years of relevant programming expertise
  • Proficiency in Linux environments
  • Strong software design, testing, and debugging capabilities
  • Ability to troubleshoot system-level issues and devise effective solutions
  • Capacity to learn new technologies and skills as required
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to work autonomously and collaboratively, manage pressure effectively, and handle multiple tasks
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Familiarity with Python, Golang, Perl, web development, and Unix shell scripting
  • Understanding of data modeling principles and SQL
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and orchestration techniques
