Position Overview:

The School Age Care Assistant plays a vital role in a school-age program, assisting in the design and execution of a stimulating and engaging curriculum for children. Alongside ensuring the safety of each child, the Assistant is expected to foster a nurturing and welcoming atmosphere that aligns with ABC Care's philosophy on school-age childcare. The role may involve supervising a group of children independently when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in care.
  • Assist in planning and implementing engaging activities.
  • Provide a supportive and positive environment for children.
  • Supervise children in various settings, ensuring their safety and engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Physical capabilities: ability to bend, lift up to 30 lbs, twist, sit on the ground, stand for extended periods, and navigate stairs.
  • A valid driver’s license is preferred for timely travel between centers.
  • Experience requirements: one of the following:
    • 800 hours of recent paid or documented volunteer experience supervising school-age children;
    • 600 hours of approved experience along with 15 clock hours of relevant college coursework;
    • 400 hours of approved experience with 45 clock hours or equivalent of college coursework.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing education classes.
  • Willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
