Job Summary

As a Senior Research Technician at the University of Pittsburgh, you will play a critical role in advancing our understanding of cellular mechanisms that improve response to radiotherapy for patients with brain tumors. Your expertise will be instrumental in uncovering the effects of targeting glucose transport on tumor metabolism and immune dysregulation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Order and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and efficiency.
  • Design and execute in vitro and in vivo assays to evaluate the effects of drugs and genetic modifications on radiation sensitivity of cell lines and tumors.
  • Develop and implement new techniques and optimize experiments to achieve high-quality results.
  • Train and mentor other laboratory personnel, promoting a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive laboratory notebooks, detailing all experiments and results.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator to discuss work in progress and ensure alignment with research goals.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of patient samples, adhering to strict protocols and regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as biology, chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of laboratory research experience, with a strong background in cell culture and molecular biology.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and results effectively.
Essential Functions
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and results.
Physical Effort

The majority of duties are sedentary, with occasional lifting of objects up to 25 pounds. A high level of physical fitness is not required for this role.
