About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to join our team at American Water. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and supporting our automation and process control infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain automation and process control systems, including SCADA and DCS systems.
  • Develop and deploy standard and custom programming and configuration code for automation and process control systems.
  • Provide second-level support for maintaining the automation and process control infrastructure, including off-hours and on-site support as required.
  • Manage automation and process control system projects, including quality assurance checks and system integration with partners.
Requirements
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in the design, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and installation of Process Control Systems (SCADA and DCS), configuration and programming of PLCs (Rockwell Automation) and HMIs (Ignition, Iconics, Intellution, Wonderware).
  • Experience with data communications systems, protocols, wired and wireless network systems.
  • Experience with OPC, and database/SQL applications.
  • Four-year (4) degree or equivalent experience and/or certifications or other education and training may be substituted.
Work Environment

This role requires on-call out-of-hours support during evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends. You will be working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities.
