Art Therapist

Garden State Treatment Center is seeking a highly skilled Art Therapist to join our team. As an Art Therapist, you will conduct level of care assessments, individual sessions, couples/family sessions, and partial hospitalization program groups within the primary scope of Art Therapy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement creative, therapeutic art projects tailored to clients in recovery.
- Lead 2-4 hours of group therapy sessions weekly, using art to explore emotions, reduce anxiety, and support healing.
- Provide a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to express themselves through art.
Assessment and Treatment Planning:
- Assess clients' emotional states and needs during art therapy sessions.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to integrate art therapy into individualized treatment plans.
- Evaluate client progress and adjust therapeutic approaches as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and timely records of each therapy session.
- Document client participation, progress, and insights for use in treatment plans.
- Ensure compliance with state requirements for documentation and reporting.
Clinical Collaboration:
- Coordinate with therapists, case managers, and clinical staff to align art therapy with broader treatment strategies.
- Attend interdisciplinary team meetings to review client progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
Client Support and Engagement:
- Offer emotional support during sessions, helping clients process their recovery journey through artistic expression.
- Guide clients to reflect on their art creations as a way to understand their emotions and behaviors.
Creative Resource Development:
- Stay updated on best practices in art therapy and integrate new methods into the program.
- Create new interventions to meet evolving client needs.
Crisis Intervention:
- Identify signs of emotional distress or relapse and respond appropriately.
- Work with the clinical team to escalate care when necessary.
Requirements:
- Must hold a valid New Jersey State license as a Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) or be in the process of acquiring it.
- Alternatively, a license in a related field, such as LPC or LCSW, with specialized training in art therapy, is acceptable.
- Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC).
- Prior experience working with clients in substance use disorder treatment is preferred.
- Familiarity with New Jersey state regulations regarding therapeutic practices is a plus.
