Position Overview
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) operates under the supervision of a licensed nurse, delivering patient care through a solid understanding of therapeutic practices, patient advocacy, and teamwork. The CNA is a vital resource for patients and their families, executing fundamental nursing tasks as outlined in Critical Care Delivery and providing environmental support to enhance service quality and patient outcomes.
Essential Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a nursing assistant training program or relevant experience to qualify for CNA certification.
Experience
- Entry-level position.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
- Certification as a nursing assistant.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education
- Associate degree.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in an acute care hospital setting.
Preferred Licensure/Certifications
- BLS certification.
Core Responsibilities
- Timely documentation and communication with team members.
- Ability to address the specific communication, developmental, and treatment needs of patients, families, and visitors across various age groups.
- Exhibit professional business and telephone etiquette while exercising sound judgment in communication.
- Basic computer proficiency is required.
- Assist patients by responding to call lights and fulfilling requests or notifying nursing staff promptly.
- Welcome and greet patients upon their arrival and conduct rounds every two hours.
- Deliver meals, snacks, water, and ice efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness in patient rooms by organizing bedside tables, changing linens, and ensuring a tidy environment.
- Familiarity with Facility Alert, Medical Alert, and Medical Emergency Systems.
- Proactively address potential patient needs.
- Commitment to unit, department, and organizational goals.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities for professional development.
- Report risk management issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Adhere to organizational standards of behavior.
- Maintain adequate supply levels for the unit and patient care areas.
- Provide courteous assistance to visitors and families.
- Collect vital signs and assist nursing and physician staff with procedures as required.
- Help with the proper placement and labeling of patient belongings.
- Support skin integrity maintenance and report any pressure concerns to nursing staff.
- Transport patients as necessary to designated areas.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
