The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a vital role in delivering exceptional nursing care to patients within our facility. This position involves overseeing the treatment and services provided by nursing staff, including LPNs and CNAs, ensuring that each patient receives individualized care tailored to their needs. The CNS will assess, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care plans, while also facilitating effective communication among the interdisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical and mental health, developing and executing nursing care strategies that prioritize patient safety and well-being.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting ongoing evaluations and any changes in patient status.
- Ensure that nursing treatment plans are aligned with the assessed needs of patients, completing initial plans upon admission.
- Receive and accurately document physician orders, ensuring clarity and compliance with established protocols.
- Administer medications as prescribed, monitoring for compliance and making necessary adjustments under the supervision of healthcare providers.
- Alert physicians to significant changes in patient conditions, particularly in critical situations.
- Supervise the self-administration of medications, employing rigorous identification protocols to ensure patient safety.
- Oversee the management and security of medications, including controlled substances, ensuring adherence to safety standards.
- Facilitate efficient admission and discharge processes, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately.
- Collaborate with the treatment team, participating in various unit activities such as therapy sessions and staff meetings.
- Provide education to patients and their families regarding treatment plans, medication usage, and health conditions.
- Monitor patient acuity and staffing needs, making necessary arrangements to ensure optimal care delivery.
- Ensure thorough documentation for all patients during each shift, maintaining accountability for assigned tasks.
- Deliver comprehensive reports to incoming staff and supervisors, ensuring continuity of care.
- Provide emergency coverage as required, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to patient care.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Preferred experience of one or more years in a clinical setting relevant to the services provided.
- Experience in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing is advantageous.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Current RN license from the applicable state or compact state.
- Certification in Psychiatric Nursing is preferred.
- CPR and de-escalation training required (available upon hire).
- First aid certification may be necessary based on state or facility regulations.
