Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building and Grounds Supervisor to join our team at Yankton County. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing and assisting staff in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of our facilities and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and assist staff in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of Yankton County facilities and grounds.
  • Inspect facilities periodically to determine problems and necessary maintenance and repair.
  • Inspect and maintain building systems, including heating, ventilation, and electrical systems.
  • Review and monitor county contracts regarding maintenance to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures and prepare weekly cleaning and maintenance schedules.
  • Provide annual budget information and monitor expenditures to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with applicable legal codes and regulations.
  • Train, assign, schedule, and discipline staff, as well as monitor the activities of outside contractors working on Yankton County facilities and grounds.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a maintenance supervisor or similar role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems, including electrical, heating, and ventilation systems.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices and regulations.
  • Understanding of budgeting and performance management.
  • Excellent planning and leadership abilities.
  • Detail-oriented and computer-savvy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High school diploma; degree from a vocational school beneficial.
  • Professional certifications, such as CMRP or HVAC certified, preferred.
