Polysomnographic Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Polysomnographic Specialist to join our team at Northwell Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing comprehensive polysomnographic testing, analysis, and associated interventions under the general oversight of a clinician.
Key Responsibilities- Interview patients and gather patient history, physical information, medications, procedure requests, and study protocols.
- Identify and assess any signs, symptoms, special factors, and co-morbid conditions.
- Complete and verify documentation.
- Provide patient education, communicate procedure, and answer questions to ease apprehension and produce comfort and cooperation.
- Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning.
- Apply electrodes and sensors according to policy and procedure.
- Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations and adjustments.
- Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
- Follow procedural protocols to ensure accurate polysomnographic data acquisition.
- Identify and report signal abnormalities.
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, procedural changes, and other significant events in order to facilitate interpretation and scoring of polysomnograph results.
- Document daytime polysomnographic recordings, such as polysomnograph (PSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) studies.
- Generate reports of sleep/wake and clinical event data tabulations.
- Implement appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age-specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of all age groups.
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures regarding safety and infection control issues.
- Disinfect and perform preventative maintenance on equipment according to established protocols.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and report malfunctions to management.
- Complete required billing information forms, as required.
- Score sleep/wake stages following established policies and procedures.
- Score clinical events, including respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc., within center-specific protocols.
- Generate accurate reports for study interpretation.
- Associates of Science Degree, required.
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) AND authorized as a Polysomnographic Technologist in New York State, required.
- OR Licensed in Respiratory Therapy by New York State AND Sleep Disorder Specialist (SDS), required.
- Basic Life Support for healthcare providers (BLS), required.
- Minimum of three (3) months prior work experience in an accredited sleep center, required.
