Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct and indirect patient care in a medical surgical setting. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the healthcare team to deliver quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care appropriate to the patient's condition and needs.
  • Consult and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to patients.
  • Follow the patient plan of care and update as necessary.
  • Administer medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Record patient care activities, including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patient's medical record.
  • Use a variety of computer systems to document patient information.
  • Operate medical equipment used in the care of the patient.
  • Provide patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge, and self-care.
  • Provide patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients, and promotes health and healing.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: Completion of a state-approved training program at technical schools or community college.
  • Active Tennessee License.
  • Required Skills: Strong computer skills, ability to work with multiple computer systems, read and communicate effectively in English, operate standard patient care equipment, work well under pressure, adapt quickly in changing situations, function dependently and independently, and be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of settings.
  • Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) (may be obtained within week one of orientation before patient care).
