The Radiology Nuclear Medicine Specialist is responsible for executing a range of technical procedures, capturing images, and utilizing radionuclides for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.


Responsibilities:
A typical day for a Radiology Nuclear Medicine Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:


Conducting radionuclide procedures on patients, which encompasses organ imaging, functional studies, and assisting physicians in the therapeutic application of radioisotopes while adhering to prescribed safety protocols.

Operating Nuclear Medicine equipment as instructed.

Ensuring radiation safety for both the patient and oneself in compliance with established guidelines.

Preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients.

Formulating radioactive tracer compounds for patient application.

Calibrating equipment and assessing radionuclides.

Receiving and examining radiopharmaceutical packages according to state and NRC regulations.


Maintaining thorough records of radioisotope receipt, usage, storage, and disposal in line with state and federal regulations governing radioactive materials; keeping additional records as required.

Ensuring cleanliness and orderliness, including maintaining contamination-free conditions for rooms, equipment, and personnel.

Adhering to all NRC, State DEP, and JCAHO guidelines/practices.

Evaluating images using PACS workstation to confirm that images are properly identified and of diagnostic quality.

Rotating work assignments as necessary in Nuclear Cardiology and PET/CT.


Performing essential daily clerical tasks, which may include using EPIC, PACS, Teletracking System, Nuclear Medicine Information System, patient scheduling, and computer processing related to patient studies.

Being responsible for scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Providing overtime as required to ensure continuous quality patient care.

Participating in on-call assignments as per Department of Radiology policy.

Welcoming all patients upon arrival for their examinations, following A.I.D.E.T. standards.

Complying with policies regarding Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.


Recognizing the needs of the patient population served and tailoring care accordingly (e.g., age, culture, language, hearing, and/or visual impairments).

This process involves communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level of understanding (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).

Adhering to the standards set forth in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Performing other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Complying with HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and

Abilities Required:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient computer skills, which may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and

Abilities Preferred:
At least one year of experience in Nuclear Medicine.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

Nuclear Medical Technologist License.

AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Working Conditions:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 6 hours a day.
