Digital Collections Archivist

Clemson University Libraries seeks a collaborative and service-oriented Digital Collections Archivist to provide leadership and expertise in the collection, transfer, storage, description, and preservation of born-digital and digitized materials. This faculty member will develop workflows, policies, and procedures to help staff carry out these tasks, working across manuscript collections and the university archives on digital archiving projects. The incumbent will contribute to Library-wide digital and preservation projects in collaboration with appropriate colleagues.

Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with Special Collections and Archives colleagues to appraise, process, and describe donations that include born-digital and/or digitized materials
  • Prioritizing processing for digital materials and creating and updating finding aids for digital and digitized materials to facilitate preservation, retrieval, and access
  • Coordinating the transfer of digital and digitized material from current and legacy media formats and using forensic and other tools to ensure authenticity, fixity, preservation, and access
  • Managing departmental digitization work, including creating and monitoring processes and workflows, and liaising with colleagues in the Digitization Lab to coordinate scanning projects
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures for the management of born digital and digitized materials held in the department
  • Leading the department's web archiving activities
  • In collaboration with Libraries colleagues, maintaining the department's content management system
  • Contributing to Library-wide digital projects and digital preservation efforts
  • Promoting the university's history through reference, research, publication, and instruction
  • Engaging in professional development such as attending conferences, workshops, and webinars related to job functions

Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities
  • Developing a focused program of high-quality research and creative accomplishments, consistent with professional responsibilities and the libraries' missions and goals

Service
  • Actively participating and demonstrating leadership in professional responsibilities that serve Libraries, University, profession, and community

Requirements

An ALA-accredited graduate degree in librarianship or other relevant graduate degree in another scholarly field as deemed appropriate by the Libraries. One year experience working in an archives or special collections environment, including digitization projects and working with digital archives. Demonstrated experience using archival collection management software. Knowledge of tools and software that capture, manage, and deliver born-digital and digitized materials. Evidence of knowledge of current trends in the archival profession, particularly in relation to born digital and digitized content. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Proven ability to work collaboratively within, and across, teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an academic or research library/archives. Society of American Archivists Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Certificate. Knowledge of digital archiving tools such as BitCurator, ePadd. Knowledge of digital preservation tools such as Archivematica, Preservica, Archive-It. Knowledge of web-publishing platforms such as Omeka. Experience processing archival collections and creating finding aids. Knowledge of OAIS and NDSA digital preservation standards. Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills. Experience or working knowledge of ArchivesSpace. Training and/or supervisory experience.
