The City of Long Beach, CA is seeking a part-time, at-will, unclassified X-ray Technician to perform radiographic procedures and operate x-ray equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain x-ray equipment, including taking of x-ray pictures and developing of x-ray pictures.
- Prepare and position patients for diagnostic x-ray films and determine exposure factors.
- Use appropriate protection to safeguard patients and staff when working with patients with active communicable diseases.
- Set machine controls and expose specified numbers and types of films.
- Explain procedures to patients and provide comfort and reassurance.
- Develop film by operating automatic processing equipment and maintain working areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Maintain office records by accurately sorting, matching, and filing standard and special x-ray forms and records.
- Answer inquiries and provide information about procedures and post information to various records.
- Check documents and records for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard procedure.
- Report broken or malfunctioning equipment to the proper authority.
- Compile and prepare x-rays for reading by a radiologist.
- Work in cooperation with a radiologist and/or other clinical team personnel.
- Graduation from high school and at least one year of study in a recognized school in x-ray technique.
- A valid Registered Technician's Certificate issued by American Registry of X-ray Technicians.
- A valid Class C Driver License (desirable).
- Willingness to work overtime, weekend, and/or holiday hours (desirable).
- In-depth knowledge of current radiographic techniques and equipment.
- Strong communication skills to compassionately and accurately explain pending procedures to patients.
- Ability to perform high-quality radiologic exams.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work safely with patients.
- Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with patients and medical providers.
- Ability to monitor patient's well-being during exams and recognize patient discomfort or medical problems.
- Ability to respond to physician questions and needs regarding patients.
- Ability and strength to assist patients with proper positioning.
