Primary Addiction Counselor FT

About the Role:
Cayuga Health System seeks a skilled Primary Addiction Counselor to join our team in Ithaca. As a vital member of our healthcare system, you will play a key role in empowering individuals struggling with addiction to achieve recovery and wellness.

Job Summary:
We are looking for a compassionate and experienced professional to provide research-based assessment, counseling, and case management services to clients and their families. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to multitask, and have crisis intervention skills. A basic understanding of addiction and recovery issues, as well as knowledge of motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and strength-based principles of treatment, is essential.

Responsibilities:
* Provide positive, collaborative relationships with clients, their families, and community partners
* Conduct research-based assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
* Offer individual, family, and group counseling sessions, addressing addictive behaviors with clinical interventions
* Plan and lead special activities, such as psycho-educational groups and didactic lessons
* Ensure client safety and maintain effective communication with the team and community partners
* Complete required documentation, including group attendance, assessments, treatment plans, and discharge summaries

Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in human services or related field (or equivalent combination of education and SUD experience)
* QHP status required
* Basic understanding of addiction and recovery issues
* Knowledge of basic counseling techniques, including treatment planning
* Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, crisis intervention skills, and ability to maintain healthy treatment boundaries
* Ability to utilize EMR software for documentation and communication
