As a key member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our students, staff, and volunteers during bus transportation to and from school and on field trips.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure Student Safety: Safeguard the well-being of children and adults being transported to and from school and on field trips.
  • Conduct Daily Inspections: Complete a comprehensive written inspection of the bus daily, reporting any conditions of concern to the director or delegated staff person before transporting children.
  • Operate the Bus Safely: Follow road and safety regulations, reporting any traffic violations to the Director immediately.
  • Supervise Students: Ensure no child is left alone on a bus without adult supervision at any time, including ensuring all children have departed the bus at the end of all bus routes.
  • Maintain the Bus: Keep the bus clean and free of debris, following other bus cleaning procedures.
  • Inventory Supplies: Routinely inventory bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment, reporting needs to the Operations Director or delegated staff person.
  • Attend Training: Attend transportation in-service training and other continuing education opportunities.
  • Respond to Emergencies: In case of accidents or emergencies, evacuate children according to written and practiced procedures.
Requirements
  • Commercial Drivers License: Possess a current Commercial Drivers License Class B with a school bus endorsement.
  • Experience: Successful experience as a School Bus Driver preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Effective oral and written communication skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
  • Physical Abilities: Ability to pass a School Bus Drivers physical, including a drug test.
  • Background Check: Must be able to comply with a background check, including fingerprints, as required by the State of Mississippi.
  • Valid License: Have a valid Mississippi drivers license.
  • Character Values: Exemplification of the character values: zest, grit, self-control, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor.
  • Teamwork: Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community.
  • Manual Dexterity: Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre-trip inspections, and clean the bus.
  • Organizational Skills: Effective organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Learning Ability: Ability to learn and comprehend information from Procedures Manuals and other materials.
  • Traffic Signs: Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs.
  • Pressure Situations: Ability to perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies.
