Coil Winder

Job Summary

This position is responsible for winding coils used in Sunbelt-Solomon Solution's transformers according to winding specifications produced by the Engineering Department. The ideal candidate will have experience running automated machines and be able to read and comprehend simple instructions.

Key Responsibilities

Select type and size of wire specified for primary and secondary windings of coil to be wound.
Create appropriate form and load form onto winding machine.
Thread end of wire from reel through tension device, guides, and spreader, bend wire ends to form lead and attach lead to coil source.
Set machine controls to adjust tension on wire and counter is correct.
Start machine and manually feed wire over coil form to obtain even and uniform winding and shape of coil.
Monitor turns counter and stop machine at specified number of turns.
Wrap insulation between layers and around wound coil or insert ducts between turns to form cooling ducts as specified on winding design.
Cut wire to form leads.
Form coils with rubber or plastic mallet to maintain shape during winding.
Strip insulation from end of lead wires, thread lead wires through insulating sleeves or slides sleeves over leads and solder lead wires to terminals as determined in winding spec.

Requirements

High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
Previous experience working in a manufacturing/technical environment.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos as well as write.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Ability to read and use a tape measure.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Requirements

Employee must be able to stand, operate foot pedal and reach with hands and fingers while performing the duties of this position.
The employee is required to walk.
The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Lifting devices are available for lifting weights in excess of 30 pounds.
