The ideal candidate will possess excellent patient care skills, knowledge of computed tomography (CT) scanning procedures, and strong communication abilities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Patient Preparation and Communication:
    • Prepare patients for CT scans by explaining the procedure, addressing concerns, and ensuring they are comfortable.
    • Verify patient information, including medical history and allergies, to ensure accurate diagnosis and proper imaging protocols.
    • Position patients properly on the CT table to obtain high-quality images while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
    • Instruct patients on how to hold their breath or remain still during scans as required by the procedure.
  • Operation of CT Equipment:
    • Operate and calibrate the CT scanner to ensure proper settings for each scan, including radiation dose and imaging protocols.
    • Administer contrast agents or dye injections under physician guidance to enhance image clarity during certain CT procedures.
    • Monitor the equipment during imaging to ensure high-quality images are captured and that no errors occur during the process.
  • Image Quality and Review:
    • Review CT images for quality, ensuring all required areas are captured and meet diagnostic standards.
    • Collaborate with radiologists to ensure images are of sufficient quality to support diagnosis.
    • Repeat or adjust scans as necessary to improve image quality or ensure comprehensive imaging coverage.
  • Patient Safety and Comfort:
    • Foster a safe and clean environment in the CT room, adhering to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure.
    • Ensure proper patient positioning to prevent injury or discomfort during the scan.
    • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to contrast agents and alert the physician if necessary.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with physicians, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to determine appropriate imaging procedures.
    • Document patient information, scan parameters, and any complications in the electronic health record.
    • Participate in patient care planning, discussing imaging approaches in complex cases.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Maintain, clean, and perform basic troubleshooting on the CT scanner and associated equipment.
    • Perform routine inspections and calibration of CT equipment, reporting any malfunctions to maintenance staff.
    • Keep accurate logs of equipment use and maintenance.
  • Radiation Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to radiation safety protocols to protect both patients and staff.
    • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and Joint Commission guidelines.
    • Stay updated on regulatory changes, including radiation safety and procedural guidelines.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping:
    • Accurately document imaging procedures, patient information, and any adverse events or changes in patient status.
    • Comply with hospital policies, medical record-keeping regulations, and industry standards.
    • Support efficient patient flow by providing quick turnaround times for imaging results.
  • Patient Education and Support:
    • Provide education and guidance to patients regarding aftercare following contrast injections and potential side effects.
    • Address patient concerns about the procedure and offer support as needed.
    • Maintain patient privacy and dignity throughout the imaging process.
  • Professional Development and Training:
    • Participate in continuing education to stay current with advancements in CT imaging technology and safety procedures.
    • Attend in-house training sessions and seminars on new imaging techniques or equipment.
    • Maintain professional certification and licensure, meeting continuing education requirements.
