Job Overview

At Tipton Ridge Veterinary Medical Center, we are seeking a dedicated full-time Veterinary Care Assistant to support our veterinary team. The Veterinary Care Assistant collaborates closely with veterinarians during patient appointments, requiring the ability to follow directions promptly and manage animals in various circumstances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians in restraining and treating patients across diverse scenarios, including vaccinations, radiology, euthanasia, ultrasound, acupuncture, and IV catheter placement.
  • Work in tandem with the assigned veterinarian to prepare for daily appointments by reviewing the schedule and anticipating potential delays or issues.
  • Respond to veterinarian callbacks and messages as instructed.
  • Familiarize yourself with the veterinarian's preferences for handling appointments.
  • Proactively prepare examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness after each patient discharge and readiness for incoming appointments based on the type of visit.
  • Communicate promptly with Service Coordinators, Veterinarians, and clients regarding any known delays in appointments.
  • Accurately enter vaccine histories from external records into the management system.
  • Educate clients on recommended heartworm and flea & tick prevention products, as well as vaccine information and potential reactions.
  • Enter appointment charges into the Patient Visit list accurately.
  • Process all daily prescription requests following veterinarian approval and established protocols.
  • Safely and effectively restrain animals during procedures.
  • Perform blood draws for necessary testing with precision.
  • Conduct bloodwork and prepare samples for laboratory submission according to established guidelines.
  • Contact clients regarding negative fecal and 4DX test results.
  • Prepare and interpret fecal and ear cytologies in accordance with established protocols.
  • Perform nail trims as needed.
  • Coordinate necessary paperwork for health certificates.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and functionality.
  • Keep laboratory and examination areas organized and tidy.
  • Answer phone calls promptly, ensuring to assist clients or patients first.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Physical Requirements: Must be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds.

Knowledge Areas:

  • Customer & Personal Service: Understanding of principles and processes for delivering customer service, including needs assessment and quality standards.
  • Clerical Skills: Familiarity with administrative procedures, record management, and office terminology.
  • Biological Sciences: Knowledge of animal biology, including organism functions and interactions.
  • English Proficiency: Understanding of English language structure, including grammar and composition.
