We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow/Resident in Laboratory Animal Medicine to join our team at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, contributing to the development of innovative research and advancing the field of laboratory animal medicine.
Responsibilities- Participate in the medical, surgical, anesthetic, and behavioral management of laboratory animal models, including mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, naked mole rats, and nonhuman primates.
- Rotate within the Animal Resources Department services to gain experience and expertise in various aspects of laboratory animal medicine.
- Contribute to the development of research protocols and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies.
- Collaborate with colleagues to advance research projects and publications, and present findings at national and international conferences.
- Participate in the activities of the Salk Institute's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare and research ethics.
- DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited school (or completed all ECFVG or PAVE requirements).
- Strong interest in laboratory animal medicine and developing expertise in research.
- License to practice veterinary medicine in California or another US state in good standing. Capable of getting licensed in California within 90 days of hire.
- Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment.
- Satisfactory completion of the Institute's background investigation.
- Experience in laboratory animal medicine, research, or a related field.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines, with a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
The Salk Institute offers a competitive salary range of $70,000-$77,500, depending on experience and qualifications. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and transit/parking program.
