Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for performing obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound procedures, providing exceptional patient care, and collaborating with our healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound procedures, selecting proper technical equipment settings and images in proper sequence according to established protocols.
  • Engage in general obstetric, high-risk obstetric, and gynecologic ultrasound procedures, including Level II Anatomy, Nuchal Translucency, and amniocentesis.
  • Follow directives from the Imaging Team Lead and Practice Manager to perform high-quality imaging studies.
  • Consult with the team lead and supervisor when necessary to verify requests for procedures and determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.
  • Employ imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate high-quality images.
  • Care for patients throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of patient care and age-specific sensitivities.
  • Participate in lifting and transporting patients to and from the department when necessary.
  • Evaluate resultant images in comparison with industry standards and take corrective action if needed.
  • Refer to appropriate reference materials for clarification when needed and consult with the Imaging Team Lead when assistance is necessary.
  • Provide patient education prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure to reduce patient anxiety and enhance their comfort zone.
  • Utilize Radiology Information Systems in accordance with current guidelines and protocols.
  • Document imaging procedures manually and/or electronically to ensure correct charging, patient, and film file tracking.
Requirements
  • Satisfactory completion of formal Ultrasound training program through an accredited school.
  • 2 years of Ultrasound experience in obstetrics and gynecologic exams preferred.
  • Effective communication skills and excellent patient care skills required.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent teamwork and ability to work independently on call.
  • Experience with GE and Philips Ultrasound machines preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Current registry by ARDMS in OB/GYN Imaging.
  • Nuchal Translucency certification within 6 months of hire.
  • CPR and BLS training required through the American Heart Association.
