Role Summary:
The Cardiac Monitoring Specialist/Nursing Support Associate plays a crucial role in the continuous observation of patient cardiac monitors, promptly notifying registered nurses and clinicians of any significant changes in cardiac rhythms. This position involves reviewing patient data to identify normal heart rhythm patterns, current deviations, and historical variances. Collaboration within a team setting under the guidance of an RN/LPN is essential, along with fulfilling the responsibilities of a Nursing Support Associate as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Continuous Patient Monitoring:
a. Interpret and document all EKG rhythms while monitoring patients on telemetry.
b. Provide direct patient care, including preparation for monitoring.
c. Monitor oxygen saturation and blood pressure as required.
d. Recognize and understand the parameters for alerting the supervising nurse.
e. Ensure accurate processing of telemetry monitor records and related documentation.
f. Verify that all patient care equipment is functioning correctly before use, reporting any issues to management and removing defective equipment from service.
2. Quality Patient Care:
a. Measure vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
b. Assist with personal care tasks including bathing, oral hygiene, skin care, and dressing.
c. Support patients with their nutritional needs by preparing them for meals and assisting with feeding when necessary.
d. Aid patients with elimination needs, including the use of bedpans and catheter care.
e. Record height and weight measurements.
f. Document intake and output accurately.
3. Documentation and Communication:
a. Maintain accurate records of patient care in accordance with unit-specific standards.
b. Facilitate effective communication among patients, team members, physicians, and visitors.
c. Report abnormal vital signs and changes in patient conditions to the primary nurse or charge nurse promptly.
d. Communicate relevant patient information during handoff reports.
e. Address patient or family inquiries or concerns in a timely manner.
4. Teamwork and Environment:
a. Demonstrate cooperative and constructive interactions with team members.
b. Accept delegated tasks within the scope of practice and seek assistance when necessary.
c. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment for patients and team members.
d. Utilize proper body mechanics during patient handling and ensure patient safety through appropriate measures.
5. Emergency Response:
a. Recognize signs of distress and notify appropriate team members promptly.
b. Obtain necessary supplies and equipment efficiently.
c. Participate in CPR and other emergency care as per scope of practice.
6. Customer Service:
a. Foster rapport and trust with patients and visitors.
b. Adhere to behavior expectations and utilize effective communication techniques.
c. Address patient and visitor concerns with a focus on resolution.

Qualifications:
Education:
* Completion of Basic EKG training with a minimum passing score of 85%.
* Successful completion of state-approved Level I Nurse Aide training and competency evaluation program or equivalent.
* High School diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification:
* EKG Monitoring Certification preferred.
* Current listing on the Nurse Aide I registry.
* Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support.

Experience:
* Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant or in a healthcare environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ability to interpret EKGs and recognize arrhythmias.
* Proficiency in using monitoring equipment.
* Competency in non-invasive blood pressure and pulse oximetry.
* Excellent patient and customer care skills.
* Effective communication skills in speaking, reading, and writing.
* Quick learner of new software; knowledge of EMR/Epic preferred.
