Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Staff Pharmacist to join our team at Luminis Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating the safe, high-quality, effective, and economic use of drugs in our inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Verify the accuracy of order entry by authorized prescribers in computerized patient medication profiles.
  2. Review written medication orders or prescriptions to determine appropriate ingredients, strength, and dosage, and identify potential allergies, drug/drug and food/drug interactions, route of administration, and potential for adverse drug reactions with other medications ordered.
  3. Communicate with prescribers to clarify orders and/or make recommendations concerning alternate therapies.
  4. Provide drug information to patients, physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff as needed.
  5. Supervise the daily operational duties in the dispensing area, including assisting and assigning, closely monitoring and reviewing the work of Pharmacy Technicians, to ensure accurate and timely delivery of medications.
  6. Participate in patient care rounds and unit-based services, which may include medication reconciliation, promoting medication efficacy/safety/cost improvement initiatives, participation in unit process improvement activities, and patient education & follow-up as appropriate.
  7. Contribute to improvements in interdepartmental policies and procedures that support the Pharmacy Department and Hospital's strategic goals. Maintain accurate records as required by departmental policies and procedures and/or federal and state board regulations.
  8. Complete all core competencies and document clinical activities accurately and according to policies and procedures. Support the Investigational Drug Service in the daily operations of the department.
  9. Educate and supervise technician staff in the preparation of intravenous admixture solutions and chemotherapeutic agents, using aseptic technique.
  10. Complete formal in-service, formulary addition/deletion, assimilation of evidence-based protocol/order-set, medication safety-related activities, and/or targeted medication expense reductions.
Requirements
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with commensurate experience required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in an inpatient setting required.
  • PGY-1 residency or Board Certification preferred.
  • Current Maryland State License required.
Working Conditions

This is a light work position that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
