Job Summary

As a Power Plant Maintenance Manager at DTE Energy, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and management of staff at the generating plant. This role requires direct supervision and leadership of the maintenance group under the general direction of the Assistant Plant Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule, and supervise the predictive, preventative, corrective, and overhaul maintenance of all power plant electric generating, steam producing, material handling, rolling stock, and associated plant equipment.
  • Ensure the plant is maintained in a reliable, safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient manner.
  • Exercise independent discretion and judgment within established policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Review and improve maintenance processes and ensure that maintenance personnel are properly trained and adhere to established procedures and standards.
  • Investigate operating abnormalities and incidents to improve equipment availability and performance and to minimize maintenance requirements.
  • Prepare necessary plant maintenance reports in a timely manner and investigate all forced outages.
  • Review and provide maintenance engineering evaluations and troubleshooting of equipment abnormalities.
  • Maintain a consistent and effective level of communication with the Assistant Plant Manager, Plant Manager, Operations Manager, and administrative staff.
  • Recommend the scheduling of and supervise the performance of overhauls of plant equipment and systems by outside contractors and/or plant staff.
  • Provide input on inventory of spare parts consistent with preventive maintenance and repair requirements.
  • Establish department and group goals based on the requirements of the PPA, suppliers, employees, the owners, and other stakeholders.
Requirements

This role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least 6 years supervisory experience in a solid fuel fired power plant. An Associate degree or industry-recognized certificate in a related discipline is preferred, and knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least 4 years supervisory experience in a solid fuel fired power plant. A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a solid fuel fired power plant is also acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications

Wood fired CFB boiler and Steam Turbine Generator operating experience is highly desired to provide for the following: A thorough, demonstrated understanding of power plant operations, with strong understanding of the maintenance function. Understanding of steam turbine technology, mechanics, hydraulics, electricity, and electronics.

Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes in priorities and deadlines. The physical demands of this role include frequently sitting, standing, or walking for a minimum of 8-hour shifts, including walking long distances and on uneven ground. The role also requires the ability to climb stairs and ladders, balance, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and maneuver in awkward positions. The role requires the ability to lift objects of up to 25 pounds in weight and carry objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. The role also requires the ability to talk and hear, use hands and fingers, handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms extensively. The role requires vision requirements for close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The role requires the ability to enter and work in confined space areas. The role occasionally exposes the employee to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and heat and cold. The role requires the ability to work in a noisy environment with moderate to high noise levels. The role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes in priorities and deadlines.
